Port of Spain Energy HQ Flooring: Salt Air, Rolling Loads, and Why SPC Beats Wood-look LVT Near the Gulf

Spanish Port energy offices mix engineering culture with coastal corrosion risk. RH sits at 80 %+, and staff walk in from compound sites with grit on boots.

Zoning we use:

  • Engineering offices / cubicles​ → nylon carpet tile​ (acoustic, hides pencil/grit, cheap tile swap).
  • Corridors, lift lobbies, control-room surrounds​ → glue-down LVT 0.55–0.7 mm​ or SPC click 5.0 mm+​ with 0.5 mm wear layer.
  • Ground-floor entrance 3 m matwell​ → heavy-duty recessed aluminum/scraper mat, then SPC.

Two non-negotables for Trinidad:

  1. Salt-fog resistance​ — ask for ASTM B117 1000 h or equivalent; SPC limestone core beats WPC and flexible LVT.
  2. Thermal swing​ — AC at 18 °C inside, 32 °C outside; specify EN ISO 23999 dimensional stability ≤0.10 % or you get joint gapping in the east-west wings.

Tefloor SPC with UV-stabilized wear layer and 1.95–2.05 g/cm³ core density passes both. TTBS/TTS 171 marks are checked at customs — keep the DoP in the container file.
